Say “I Love You” with Valentine's Day Heart Cookies

Valentine's Day without some form of heart-shaped cookie feels wrong. Whatever stage of life you’re in, whatever your relationship status may be, eating cookies around February 14th is a must.

With that said, we have a simple recipe for Valentine's Day Heart Cookies that are the perfect treat for the occasion. Made with either our Vanilla or Chocolate Cupcake & Cake Mix as the base, these cookies are easy and quick to whip up. They stand out on their own without frosting or add-ins, but can also be transformed into a canvas for decorating or sandwich cookies with a dollop of frosting.

Tips for Perfect Valentine's Day Heart Cookies:

  • Choose your cookie shape wisely: Instead of using a cookie cutter, we highly recommend using a heart-shaped silicone cupcake mold like this one due to the spreadability of these cookies.
  • Experiment with add-ins: Consider mixing in chocolate chips, sprinkles, or even chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.
  • Opt for quality ingredients: Using high-quality butter and eggs can make a significant difference in the taste and texture of your cookies.
  • Don't overmix the dough: It's important to mix the dough until it just comes together. Overmixing can result in tough cookies, so be sure to stop mixing as soon as the dough forms into a cohesive mass.
  • Make sandwich cookies: Take your cookies to the next level by spreading a dollop of frosting between two cookies to create a sweet and creamy filling. Any flavor of our frosting mixes would be a great addition.

If you do decide to decorate your cookies and would like to write something fun (think conversation hearts), here are some ideas to get you started:

  • LOVE YOU
  • Kiss ME
  • XOXO
  • CUTIE
  • UR CUTE
  • ME + YOU

With these tips in mind, you should be ready to start baking. Let's dive into the recipe and bring these Valentine’s Day cookies to life!

Ingredients if using Vanilla Cupcake & Cake Mix*:

  • 1 box of the mix (ignore add-ins on the box)
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp butter (56g)(cold)

Ingredients if using Chocolate Cupcake & Cake Mix*:

  • 1 box of the mix (ignore add-ins on the box)
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tbsp butter (70g)(cold)

*There is a slight change in the amount of butter depending on whether you’re making the cookies using the Vanilla Mix or the Chocolate Mix. The instructions below are the same for both.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Cut the butter into cubes and add to a large bowl.
  3. Add in the Vanilla or Chocolate Cupcake & Cake Mix and egg, and using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, mix on medium speed until it forms into a cohesive dough. This process might take a few minutes, and initially, the mixture may resemble fine sand. Cease mixing as soon as the dough comes together.
  4. Form the dough into balls, roughly 2 tablespoons each. This batch should yield around 12 cookies.
  5. Evenly distribute each ball into a heart shaped cupcake mold. Bake for approximately 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies acquire a golden hue, while the centers remain light.
  6. Let cool completely.
  7. Decorate however your heart desires!

Whatever flavor cookie you choose to make, and however you decide to decorate, we can assure you these Valentine’s Day Heart Cookies will taste delicious. And when made with extra love, they’re guaranteed to bring smiles to everyone who takes a bite.

Hugs and cookies!
